HAPPY TAILS

  ABBY...

With a prognosis of 6 months to live, after surgery to remove her malignant chest tumor, we adopted sweet Abby.  And now, one year later J she’s still chasing lizards and barking at birds with the other three Goldens in her home.  Abby has brought more joy to our lives in her one year with us than we could ever have imagined.  We’re convinced she is surely an angel, straight from heaven.

~ Al & Kathy M.

  GRETA...

Greta was abandoned at a local groomer's business. She came into the rescue at nearly 100 pounds and possible thyroid problem. Her new Mom and Dad have been walking her daily and Greta gets lots of time to play outside. She has dropped weight to 73 pounds and has no thyroid problems. Tom and Barbara just love this gal and enjoy having her around!

  SANDY...

Thinking we would only be a foster family for Sandy because of our already full Golden household, after 2 months, we realized that we could not let her go.  We fell in love with her white sugar face, her sweet disposition, and her desire to follow us around everywhere, all the time.  We now know the true meaning of a Velcro dog!  Sandy is a lovebug.

~ Al & Kathy M.

  LUCY...

I couldn’t let this occasion pass without dropping you a note about our Lucy.  Today, 9/29/2009 marks the two year anniversary of when we brought Lucy home with us and from the moment she jumped in the car it was as if she had been with us forever.  She has been an incredible blessing to our family and I can only hope that we are to her what she has been to me, Robin and our boys.  What a precious little child she is!

Robin and I have been wanting to write to you for the longest time but we just never seem to get around to it- but this anniversary just couldn’t pass us by (since we don’t know Lucy’s birthday, 9/29 IS her birthday) without saying something- including THANK YOU FOR BRINGING LUCY INTO OUR LIVES!

I’ve attached a couple of pictures so you can see our little dear!  She is our love!
Thanks so much!

~ Mark H.

  JAZZ (fka Mason)...

Jack and I are officially in love!  Jazz is absolutely the best puppy ever!  He's very laid back, loving and not really needy…He knows which bed is his and has settled in easily.  Last night he went shopping repeatedly where Augie keeps all of his toys, bringing one at a time out to the living room for a little lovin'.

I wanted to let you know that Jazz is perfect for us and for Augie.  He's such a lovey-dovey and pretty funny too.  This afternoon he stole the slipper right off my foot and took it back to his bed for a little chewing.  After I took it back he sauntered over to chew on it while it was still on my foot.  He's a sweetie!

Thank you so much for the perfect match.  We are spreading the word about G.R.E.A.T. in hopes of finding more homes for our favorite breed.  Thank you for all that you do.

~ Karen & Jack M.

TAFFY...

As promised here are the first few pictures of our BABY. We love her so much
and she is finally on her way to a GREAT life….Everybody just loves her and she has brought so much joy into our life. I love to take her to work and she is so good….Thank you so much in putting so much trust in us and letting us have her, we will always love her.

~ Ulla L

  EMMIE...

Thought I would send a few new photos of Emmie enjoying her new home. Not sure I mentioned this, but my kids gave her a middle name--Christmas, because they think maybe she was a Christmas pup. So she is Emmie C. now. I cannot get over what a good dog she is. She comes when I call her, she is a great playmate to Fender, and she is a pleasure to walk, and we walk twice a day!! My three year old granddaughter was visitng a few weeks ago, and she did just fine with her. The little boy next door is quite taken with her, too. Thanks again.

~ MJ

  REUBEN...

Here's a pic of Reuben in the pond.  He's great, he has been enjoying chasing lizards, swimming in the pool and pond, and socializing at the local dog park. We start training next week, so i will keep you all updated as he grows and matures. Will send pics soon. Thank you guys very much for everything,

~ Josh S.

  BEAR...

I have attached a few pictures of Bear…He is getting sooooo big and strong…he loves his treats and he never stops!!  WE LOVE HIM!!!!!

Chasing lizards and getting to know each other…Bear and Sammie were a bit possessive of their toys the first few days, but with patience and a bit of work, they are doing so well…

Bear is an absolute love….a true “sweet golden boy”….He is visibly gaining weight…….I always sneak him a couple extra treats when Sammie isn’t looking….I just love him plain and simple!!!

Thank you both for all you do….

~ Connie J.

  HONEY...

Well we are the proud parents of Honey!! Oh my gosh, what a sweetheart! We spent about 1 1/2 hours with (her fosters) and everything is all set....We are so excited and can't wait to get her here with us. She is absolutely perfect for us and just what we were hoping to find!

Thanks so much for all of your help and for having Sue get in touch with us right away!

~ Robin M.

  EDDIE...

Eddie seems to be adjusting really well.  I am sure he wonders what is up, but he doesn’t appear to be depressed.  He has been letting me know when he wants to go out, and he and I went for a long walk this morning.  He is letting us all hug him, and give him love.  He hasn’t eaten much yet, but he has eaten some, and has been drinking water.

The girls and I are going to take him to PETCO after school today to pick out some things, and he is scheduled to go see our vet tomorrow.  He is getting lots and lots of love and attention!

~ Linda S.

  LILLY (fka "Caroline")...

Wanted to drop you a note and let you know how Caroline (now Lilly) is doing.  We definitely made the right choice.  She is such a doll.  Lilly has really taken to us and has made herself right at home in our house….She has made friends with all the other dogs on the street.  She is not afraid of them at all - even those bigger than her - and loves to play.  She's also great at fetch and loves to chew a stick.

I just wanted you to know that she is happy and so are we!

~ Wendy B. & Family

  RILEY II...

Riley is the best thing that ever happened to me. He is complemented by everyone and someone's loss was my gain. He is devoted, affectionate, appreciative and friendly.

Thanks G.R.E.A.T. for saving my best friend. He is with me 90% of the time and loves it.

~ Pete M.

  MASON (fka "Waves")...

Just wanted to give you an update on Mason. Overall he is doing very well. Except for some minor issues, he has adjusted nicely. He and my Dane are best buddies. Not to mention, I love him dearly!

~ Lisa H.

  CASSIE...

Cassie has been a wonderful addition to our family. We had wanted a puppy, but you allowed her to come and meet us just to see if maybe she would be a fit. Man was she ever. She is the official door greeter of the house… She loves children very much. She just loves to be adored and petted by all. Especially belly rubs and treats!

~Dora & Rob G

  CARSON...

I adopted Carson in October of this year.  He has brought me so much joy.  Thank you for all you do to connect and complete families.  He has certainly completed mine.

~ Karen S.

JENNIE - a Golden/Lab, Mom of 10 G.R.E.A.T. puppies!!

We are approaching 5 months with Jennie and she has brought so much joy to our lives. We completed our first obedience class – we are proud to say that she graduated THIRD in her Class of 37 dogs.  She has adapted very well to being an only dog, movie time and popcorn is one of her favorite times of the week, she also loves to ride in the car and go for a walk in the park.  She has learned not to lunge at others that like to walk in the park or their dogs.  We look forward to many wonderful years with her and possibly adopt more dogs.  Thank you GREAT for this opportunity!

~ Jennifer T.

CHASE...

Chase is working out perfectly.  He is so much like our previous golden that even our cat didn’t bat
an eye….
Chase is well mannered and has created a bond… As you can see Cleo accepted Chase…Chase just smelled Cleo and walked right by. Amazing. Everyone is getting along. Perfect fit.

~ Rich & Kathy W.

  SAM (fka Ben)...

“Sam is spectacular and growing at a surprising rate… Sam will now sit on command 99.9% of the time, come on command 90% of the time, and stay 50%.  He seems very smart, so smart that – he likes to drink from the spigot out side.  He has decided that he wants to turn it on himself and has gotten close… He has great fun with the boys before school each morning.  They run him so hard he is napping by 9.  Sam has found that doorstops are great fun to pounce on and growl back if hit just right.  The most interesting thing is that he finds TV captivating.  I have never seen a dog intentionally sit and watch TV as Sam does.”

~ Paul T.

  SULLEY (fka Barley)...

“Sulley is doing great he has adjusted well and is showing more personality each day. Jackson (our other dog) has accepted his presence and is tolerating him well. Sulley’s new playmate is the neighbor’s 80lb German Shepherd. The shepherd is very gentle with the puppy and Sulley gives it all, he has which makes for a good nights rest for us. He has grown to like his kennel and freely enter it to sleep during the day. This weekend we will be taking Sulley camping and anticipate him learning to swim, however this is up to him. My feeling however is we will have a harder time keeping him out of the water given he keeps crawling into our fountain and tipping over the water bowl. He has been a great addition to our family and a source of a lot of fun.”

~ Mike and Lesley S.

  TESS...

We adopted Tess on August 24, 2007. Tess and her sister, Maize were put up for adoption at the same time. We were originally looking to adopt another Labrador Retriever when we came across your web page. This was about the same time that Tess and Maize appeared on your available page. We fell in love with Tess from the photos that were posted. She was a little down for about a week or so after we brought her home, probably because she missed her sister. She is very happy now. Tess has been a very affectionate addition to our family and has adjusted well to us and her new Labrador brother, Trooper. She was a little over weight when she came home with us, but had lost about 8 pounds after going to Great Rescue and has lost about 7 pounds since she came home with us. She is more active now and is looking very trim. You can tell she came from owners that loved her very much. She is very well-mannered and very obedient. We feel very blessed and can say she is the best dog we have brought into our family. Thanks to Sheri and every one else at G.R.E.A.T. Rescue for what you do for these magnificent dogs!

~ Tom & Cheryl

  MAIZE...

"Mazie is THE MOST wonderful dog!  She came to us having been separated from her sister so she was understandably a bit sad.  After a few days, she was bursting with that typical Golden charm and our house has never been the same!  She and her new Golden sister, our five year old Morgan, bonded right away and are the best of buddies.  She's spoiled rotten, as a Golden should be, and MUST have a bedtime snack which she will remind you of by standing at the pantry closet, should you happen to forget.  Her love knows no bounds, as does ours for her.  We simply cannot imagine now what our life was like without her.  Thanks to everyone at G.R.E.A.T. for the awesome work you do."

  SUNSHINE (fka Olivia)....

"Here are some pictures of our Sunshine. She is now 48 pounds and full of life. We are so blessed to have her as a part of our family now. Thanks!"

  HANNAH...

"Hannah is just a wonderful dog!  She has grown into herself now and is about 80lbs.  She is very
active and keeps us busy!  She loves to run in the soccer park with my 3 kids and chase them and their soccer balls around.  We had her trained, so she is quite a well-behaved lady, which is a good thing since she is so big.  She also loves to go to the Jax Beach dog park and meet new friends.  We have a hard time getting her to leave.  And, of course, she loves the beach- jumping in the waves is her favorite thing to do.  Hannah has brought such joy into our house.  We are thrilled she became part of our family.  Thanks GREAT Rescue!"

  NELSON...

"Nelson is a wonderful dog, loves his brother O.J., and now weight 70lbs, with lovely blond hair. His favorite thing is the world is water, and the only time he will be slow to come when called is when we are at the beach, and he doesn't want to leave...no matter how tired he is.  We are grateful for him every day!"

  LUCY (fka Jasmine)...

“An update on Jasmine….. Well, first of all we changed her name to Lucy. She is doing very well adjusting to her new life with us. Libby is learning her boundaries and has accepted Lucy as her little sis. At first Lucy was very quiet and reserved, but by the end of the evening she was defending her toys and playing tug-o-war with Libby. Today they played and napped together. She is doing great and getting lots of attention.”

  MADDIE (fka Madison) . . .

“Maddie is growing like a weed and LOVES the water!  She has her own little pool and will completely submerge herself in it.  She has definitely added excitement to this house!”

  LUNA . . .

Luna is such a sweetheart and having so much fun.  She and her sisters Mellie (golden mix) and Tux (cat) and her brothers Sam (golden) and Tiger (cat) all play together and pile up and sleep together.  She has fit into our home so well.  There is nothing in her world she wants more than a belly rub, a day at doggy day camp, and a cuddle with Mommy or Daddy.

  RILEY (fka HARRY) . . .

"The Adventures of Riley” - Riley has been doing great since we got him. His favorite things include long walks, chasing lizards with Athena (our cat), and hanging out during Navy football games. He even has his own scarf which he wears on game day!  We look forward to many long years with him and hopefully adopting more dogs from GREAT!"

LINDSEY (right) and her G.R.E.A.T. brother CHARLIE . . .

July 1, 2006, we adopted Charlie (he is the big guy in the photo) from G.R.E.A.T. Since that time, we have fostered several G.R.E.A.T. dogs, all of whom enriched our lives before being adopted out to their forever home. Charlie, a 75 pound "puppy" who lives to play, enjoyed having a playmate each time we fostered. We decided that at some point that Charlie needed a permanent playmate. Then along came Lindsey, a pathetic abandoned shelter dog, who was malnourished to the point her ribs were protruding, she was sick with heartworms and she had been allowed to have litter after litter of puppies. We all fell in love with her sweet, gentle nature and Charlie found his soulmate. After a few weeks of good medical care, an abundance of good food and lots of TLC, Lindsey blossomed into a beautiful, fun-loving dog. She is constantly showing her affection and gratefulness for now having a secure, loving home. As you can see from the photo, she and Charlie are constant companions and playmates. Thus, exactly one year to the day after adopting Charlie, we have adopted Lindsey. Thanks, G.R.E.A.T. for bringing these GREAT "kids" into our lives!

  LUCKY (fka DELORES) . . .

"Old Gold IS the Best Gold"....We absolutely feel like WE are the  luckiest people ever to have made Lucky a part of our family.  It was so easy to have her move right in and already know just what to do...no training  necessary, and she made it so easy to love her from the first moment we met her.

She "talks" regularly, walks faster than I could ever imagine and this is a good thing for both my husband and myself....and loves not only Duke, the black Lab who has been with us for 6 years, but also all the neighbors and neighborhood dogs.  Finishing her heartworm treatment was easy and she seems quite healthy and happy. Let's hear it for the Seniors!!!

~ The White Family

  ANGEL . . .

Angel is such a wonderful girl – her name fits her so well! She is quite a clown and keeps us laughing at her antics. She really brightens our life and we love her so very much! We play ball, go for walks, have indoor games with her toys, and of course the hugs, smooches and tussling! She is a wonderful companion for John who is disabled and home all day, and when I get home it’s so great to be greeted with her enthusiasm. Thanks to G.R.E.A.T. we have an Angel with us…thank you so much for rescuing her!

GOLIATH (& his GREAT cousin, Walter) . . .

Goliath (right) and Walter are both GREAT Goldens... AND cousins too! Goliath was turned over to GREAT by an older couple who realized he had more energy than they were prepared for in their retirement years. He soon found his new home with a young family that enjoys the outdoors, camping and going to the beach. Goliath loves attention, enthusiastically greets everyone he meets, and is always up for a good game of football out in the yard.

Goliath also enjoys spending time with his GREAT cousin, Walter. When not posing for the camera, these two handsome boys enjoy chasing lizards in the back yard and playing keep-away with their toys.

MULLIGAN . . .

Mulligan is doing wonderfully! He is our first Golden and what a treat he is. Everyone that meets him says that he could be a show dog. This is how Mr. Mulligan cools off after a day of chasing squirrels (which always beat him to the tree). That is his very own float which he allows no one to get near. If you come near him, he actually splashes his paws in the water to keep you away. It is very funny. He is a "Great" success story and we feel very lucky to have become his forever home.

  SAMMY . . .  (fka Comet)

We adopted Sammy in June 2006 and he has quickly made himself right at home in our family!  He's such a sweet, loving boy and has yet to find anyone that he doesn't adore - including my mother-in-law's cat!  Sammy and his bolder brother, Buddy, have become fast friends and spend hours wrestling and chasing each other around the back yard.  He loves visiting Grandma and Grandpa's house, where he and Buddy wear themselves out swimming in their pool.

Sammy is definitely living the good life now - he has a forever home where the treats are plentiful and he gets to sleep in bed with Mom and Dad - right smack in the middle of us!  We both are so grateful to GREAT for bringing this sweet boy into our lives!

CHARLIE . . .

Here's Charlie engaging in one of his favorite activities - hanging out on the dock with his tongue hanging out and the river breeze blowing through his hair.

Since Charlie came into our lives on July 1st this year, he has become my shadow. He hangs out with me all day in my home office as I work and sleeps outside my bedroom door. Whenever my neighbor comes over in her golf cart, he runs and jumps on it, knowing that it means he gets to go over to her house and romp around in her yard.

Charlie also loves to be groomed. Whenever the brush comes out, he comes over and lays down at my feet with a dreamy look on his face. I think he knows he is a beauty.

Charlie is extremely smart, well-behaved, loves to play and loves people as well as other dogs. He truly is "golden" and has definitely enriched our lives.

  WALTER . . .

Everyday Walter greets me with my socks, clothes, or flip flop, and I have NEVER been happier to walk through the door. He gets so excited, he head-butts me when I scratch his back...and yet there is something sweet about those headaches. I love how he can go from prim-and-proper one moment, listening to every command I give him, to a huge goofball that wants to wrestle the next.

I LOVE running with him through our neighborhood, even when he stops to chase lizards and yanks me backwards. Walter loves playing with Samantha, our Chihuahua. He lies on the floor and moves his head back and forth while she wrestles with it. He enjoys car rides, but hasn't figured out to look down so the wind won't blow up his nostrils!

Walter is an excellent snuggler at night and just wants to be near me during the day. I never realized what "Velcro dog" actually meant until now. He is absolutely WONDERFUL and I can't thank GREAT enough for blessing me with him!

  AMBER . . .(fka Pogo)

We adopted 'Pogo'...who is now known as 'Amber'. :) She's too pretty to be a Pogo!

She's a sweet girl, loves the kids and Leo, the cat. She's blessed enough to have a best friend living right across the street on our cul-de-sac. Maggie is a year old Yellow Lab, and the two of them have the very best time rough-housing. We get them together almost daily, which is nice because they're both quite rambunctious. We, the moms, actually call each other to ask if the dogs can, PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF PETE, GET THEM TOGETHER TO PLAY!!! :) It's great!

  SPENCER . . . (fka Randy)

Here are some pictures of Spencer (aka Randy) and Charlie!  Aren’t our boys adorable?

They really do love to be together.  And Spencer is just a mush-pot.  All he wants to do is cuddle and curl up at your feet!

  TOBY (TANK)...

Toby joined our family in November 2005 and he is a joy. He loves all his "babies" (stuffed toys) and is a real water dog. He would stay in the ocean or the Davis Park- Paws Park forever I think. He loves to curl up on my lap - I think he still believes he's a puppy! We would adopt another if we didn't have our other Golden, Simba.

GREAT is a fantastic organization and we are thankful we learned of your good work. Keep it up.......

  SHADOW...

Shadow is a lovely old gal who was turned into the Humane Society because her family of nine years was moving!!  This was terrible, sad loss for Shadow, who lay facing the wall and thinking "Why did they leave me after I loved them for so long"?

Fortunately, GREAT was able to rescue Shadow! Once she set her paws into her new foster home, it became clear that this sweet, soft face would be staying forever and would not have to worry about being abandoned again. Shadow's gentle personality and adorable smile melted their hearts....who could resist such a face!

  CHANCE...

Chance is a beautiful, deep red Golden who was surrendered by his owner. A recent job promotion meant longer hours and less time at home with Chance, so she contacted GREAT in the hopes of finding him a home where he could enjoy lots of companionship and playtime.

As you can see, Chance now has the companionship of his 5lb Chihuahua sister "ZZ" who uses him as her own personal chaise lounge. Chance's new home also includes lots of land (for running and playing!), chickens (to steal eggs from!), and an older Lab brother (who likes to sample his food when he's not looking!). Chance is enjoying "the good life" with his new owners who adore his mischievous, Golden personality.

  MAGGIE . . .

Maggie (aka "Shaggy-Maggie-Boombah!") was a five month old female Golden when she was surrendered to GREAT because her owners moved into an apartment and could no longer keep her. Originally only meant to be fostered, Maggie quickly wrapped her furry-self around her foster's heart and found her Forever Home. ..."Maggie is such a sweetheart! She loves to snuggle on our bed in the morning, sprawled out on her back with her belly catching the cool breezes from the ceiling fan. Once her feet hit the floor though, she's off and running, ready to play catch, bark at the birds by the lake, or wrestle with her furry siblings. Her latest 'trick' is to pace in front of us while we are sitting in the recliner. This is her signal for us to put the foot part up so she can hop up and settle between our feet. She is the Princess and this is her throne."

  SPLASH . . .

Splash was surrendered by his owner who became too ill to care for him. Arriving into GREAT at age 2 1/2, weighing well over 100lbs, Splash had some "Golden flubber" to lose and lots of love to give. He was adopted by a family who fell in love with his gorgeous deep red coat. Splash, who was aptly named because he slept in his water dish as a pup, has learned to swim since his adoption, has slimmed down to a svelte 90lbs, and loves to go for car rides and accompany his new family to the soccer fields... "Splash is my love, my big wooly beast who greets me at the door every day, and sleeps on my feet every night. He is my buddy and always near my side. He does very well off-leash now, has learned to 'sit pretty', shake, smile, and pose as "Super Splash!' He is a ham and LOVES to meet people. We could not imagine life without our big, goofy boy!"

PAIGE . . .

"Now this is what I call living!"  Things weren't always this wonderful for Paige, who was given to an irresponsible family at 6 months old.  She spent the next 1 1/2 years living alone in the backyard in rain, heat and frigid cold.  Not knowing what the dog house was for, Paige waited by the back door longing for someone to let her in, but when it was attempted, they slammed the door, often on her.  Paige's days were spent watching birds and planes fly overhead, and longing for a gentle touch or word.  When she came to GREAT, she was so frightened she would not stand up on all four legs, constantly jumped on people to get attention, and attempts at a walk were met with fear and panic.

After being rejected by four families, Paige now lives with her forever family and four Golden Retriever sisters.  Although, she is a true Velco dog and continues to need constant touching, she now goes for a mile walk each day, often sleeps in the "big" bed, if not in her own, and can be seen representing GREAT Rescue at many animal related events.  Her bird watching days continue though, with every hawk, egret and cardinal getting a lot of looks and barks!

SANDY . . .

Sandy was a 1 1/2 yr old female Golden who was turned over to GREAT because of family allergies. They were heartbroken to give Sandy up, but knew GREAT would find her the best possible home. ... "Sandy is adjusting to the quiet home life," says her new owner. "The cats and her get along, nothing crazy, she will chase Lucy and Lucy will chase her but generally they all walk around each other. She really likes to greet people and dogs. During the week it is pretty much two walks in the morning. When I get home it is the same way. On the weekend we go to the dog park or a local park and we just went for the second time to the beach. She loves it. She really is all around really a good minder. She is always happy to see me. She is a great dog and I think she is sooo cute, and so does everyone else."

DUNKIN (fka Booda)...

When Dunkin was first brought to GREAT, he was VERY thin and had no concept of "house rules". He'd been left out in the back yard most of his young life, never receiving the attention or love a Golden really needs. After spending almost 2 months in a foster home with other Goldens, Dunkin quickly learned how to be a good boy, to stop counter surfing, and how wonderful life can really be! His new owner tells us: "Dunkin is doing really well. He's probably up to 90+ lbs or so and his coat is coming in beautifully, especially on his chest. Everyday is like Christmas for Dunkin, as soon as I wake up in the morning he is cuddled up to me like a baby bear wanting to give me kisses and get some lovin'. He gets to play ball in the a.m. and then again when I get home. On Sundays I try to take him up to the park and let him loose to run, but normally he just ends up chasing squirrels or trying to sit on people laps on the benches!"

OPUS (fka Jackson)...

Opus was rescued from a local Animal Shelter, then brought to GREAT for evaluation and fostering before going to his forever home. This young, energetic boy played with his foster siblings non-stop and was thrilled to have so much attention. He now lives in a country-like setting with plenty of room to run, and sunshine to warm his happy heart. Opus' new family recently contacted GREAT with an update: " Just wanted to send you some recent pictures of Opus.  He has been very challenging for us, but he's doing really well.  He's very smart and learns quickly.  We've just completed basic obedience training and are signing up to go further, since it's teaching us so much about how to handle dogs in general, and especially a very strong-willed boy like Opus. We hope to see you in April at your reunion."

TYLER (fka Turbo)...

"I adopted Tyler when he was 7 months old, his name was Turbo and that was so appropriate for him then.  I had wonderful plans for him but first I had to change that image  of him and so he has since been known to the world around as TYLER!

We had fun in the Dog Training Classes and now he is a "Canine Good Citizen". We have had a great time cheering the residents of the local Nursing Homes here in St. Augustine."

  RILEY...

"Riley came into our lives right after we lost our 14 year old dog, Claire. Her last few years were tough so we were clearly ready for some extra time. However, Riley had other plans! We fell in love with him through pictures and gratefully welcomed him into our home. My husband, however, needed to be convinced and Riley worked his charm on him. He was officially ours in a week!

At 10 months old, his original owners turned Riley into Animal Control as he was hit by a car. He had no visible injuries and now he had no home.

In his new home, Riley sleeps on Rachel's bed, on top of Great-Grandma's quilt, has a new (dog) brother to play and wrestle with and a pool to swim in. He gets marshmallows and carrots for treats and lots of loving from his family. He is the clumbsiest, hole digging dog ever (hence his nick names, Mr. Magoo and Puppy Paws) but we love him dearly and he has filled the hole left in our family."

Thank you Great Rescue! Riley is wonderful!
Bruce, Dawn and Rachel

  ROSE...

Rose was a poor, dirty, sick dog brought into Animal Control as a stray. She was overweight, had lost most of her fur, and her skin was rotting and falling off her body. One look at Rose and it all became very clear to us: THIS is what “Rescue” is all about!

Rose had a thyroid condition and yeast infection throughout her body that would require a tremendous amount of time and patience in order for her to heal. As the weeks and months progressed, this once pathetic dog emerged as a stunning, soft, beautiful and very spirited Golden Retriever.

Rose is now enjoying a wonderful life with her new family - the one that fostered her - and her Four Golden Retriever sisters. She has touched each of us at GREAT Rescue with her unconditional love and a heart of pure gold.

To read more about “Rose’s Extreme-ly GREAT Makeover” and to see her Before & After photos, please visit our Donations page!

LUCY...

"When I first met Lucy, she looked all of her reported 10 years old.  Her hair was stiff and broken, she had some spots that were sort of bare, She was constantly aggravated by ear mites, and she had a little bit of a "shuffle" to her gait.  I wasn't so sure I was up to the task of getting her into shape, just to lose her in a year or two.  Seemed like a lot of work, not much reward.

That was almost 4 years ago.  Today, Lucy is a very, very happy 13 1/2 year old Golden.  Her coat softened up and grew back in no time.  I found out her previous owner (who loved her dearly but couldn't keep her when he moved) had treated her to weekly romps at the beach - but not washed the salt off her coat.  She still loves the water and will swim at the beach or dog park until we trick her to get her out!  She still has that shuffled gait on one of her back legs but it definitely does not slow her down.  She gets daily walks with her half-Golden/half Shepherd sister, Ali.

Lucy entered our home and settled in within a day or so.  She came to us fully house-trained (HUGE bonus!) and very good natured.  Don't let her age fool you - she still has some of those other lovable Golden traits - constant tail wagging, occasional stubbornness, playfulness, always beggin' for a treat or a petting, and constantly "thieving" one of my daughter's stuffed animals.  When she entered our home, she entered our hearts, and I am so blessed that God has let her stay longer than I thought!  I pray she has another healthy 3 1/2 years with us!"
