At GREAT Rescue, we believe that all Golden Retrievers deserve a GREAT Second Chance, therefore, our mission is to rescue the young, senior and special needs dogs and give them a happy, healthy and loving life for the remainder of their years.  Some of these dogs would never have an opportunity to enjoy life because many shelters consider dogs as young as five years old to be seniors and not adoptable. As for special needs dogs, they never have a chance.  But today, with good care, many Golden Retrievers enjoy a happy life to 14 or 15 years of age.

WYSITGYG means a dog that is ready for whatever you have in mind-sleeping, walking, snuggling or just being together!

WYSITGYG means a wonderful foot warmer in winter and happy wagging tail to cool you in summer!  WYSITGYG means no intensive training or obedience classes-senior dogs already know how to behave! WYSITGYG means no jumping on people like a rambunctious puppy or young adult dog!  WYSITGYG means a quick learner because they want nothing more than to please you and be loved!  WYSITGYG means no chewed woodwork, shoes or furniture!  WYSITGYG means a dog that doesn’t need constant supervision!  WYSITGYG means a good example for other younger dogs in the family!.

WYSITGYG means no digging out or jumping over the fence!  WYSITGYG means a senior Golden Retriever knows what “no” means because they have already learned that in their former life!  WYSITGYG means a dog who knows to let you finish your task and wait patiently for its turn for your attention!  WYSITGYG means a dog that is gentle with small children and senior citizens!  WYSITGYG means a loving personality, gentle spirit and heart of Gold!  WYSITGYG means a faithful companion for the remainder of its days and a heartful of warm memories for the remainder of yours!!

Just as these precious Goldens are very special, so too, are the families who adopt them. My Precious Old Gold  So many stories lay hidden deep within my heart, Even though I wasn’t with you from the very start.  But that was then and this is now, Isn’t that’s all that matters anyhow?  The first time I saw you, I knew right from the start, You would hold a special place for me, deep within your heart.  You looked beyond my frailties, even my slower pace, You even looked beyond the white upon my face.  I may not run as fast or hear or see as well, But one look in my sweet eyes and you can surely tell.  I loved you at first glance and my heart was filled with joy, As I heard you say the words, “Let’s go home, Old Boy!””  When I hear you call my name, my old heart just swoons and melts, It’s surely the happiest of times, I think, that I have ever felt.  We may not have many years ahead or activities to share But I know you really love me and will give me the GREATest care.  By giving me a GREAT Second Chance for a beautiful life, You’ve saved me from life’s sadness and otherwise lonely strife.  I will do my best to show you how much I really care And together we will enjoy life and build memories to share.  And so, when I must leave you, when I’m sick and very old, I will hear you whisper, “Thank you, God, for sending ‘My Precious Old Gold’ ”.
